Boosting our immunity system and maintaining a level of robust wellness is more important today than ever before.
We are becoming more resistant to antibiotics and words like flu and virus have taken on a new meaning.
The immune system is highly sensitive to oxidative stress and cannabis is abundant in antioxidants. The discovery of the Endocannabinoid system was one of the most significant medical discoveries in the last century. Bar insects, it is a system of cellular communication shared with all living things, including our pets.
For centuries prior to the use of synthetic drugs, cannabis was widely used for its therapeutic and pain relieving properties. Today, the most abundant and most studied compounds, CBD and THC are increasingly found in isolate products.
However, we believe in the hypothesis that the full spectrum of cannabis including all its terpenes and compounds working in natural synergy, is better for our health and immune function.
A deficiency of protein or amino acids has long been known to impair immune function. Hemp seeds provide all twenty known amino acids, and the nine essential amino acids, which our bodies can’t produce and must be found through diet.
They are rich in essential fatty acids which are vital for long term health and are especially rich in amino acids arginine, methionine and cysteine which are vital in creating antioxidant enzymes.
Hemp seeds are also high in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which further supports the immune system and helps reduce inflammation.
CBD can benefit our immune function , and our pets, in a number of ways. CBD is a potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory, relieves anxiety, relieves depression and promotes healthy sleeping patterns. THC also has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is often found blended with CBD.
Terpene profiles also matter. There are approx. 400 known terpenes in cannabis. Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds which effect colour, flavour and aroma. They are also known to possess therapeutic effects which is why many are finding that full spectrum products are providing better results.
To date, terpenes and their effects have been linked to relieving anxiety and depression and having anti fungal and antibacterial properties.
It seems our hypothesis is proving correct. Mother Nature had it right in the first place!
