While people regularly boast of the power of pumpkin and poppy seeds to increase vitamin levels and improve health and vitality, not many of them also include the mighty hemp seed in their calculations. Health food fanatics have long known about the benefits of this tiny seed, but there is a strong prejudice against it because of its associations with the drug Marijuana.
There are so many reasons why hemp seeds should form a part of our every day diet that it is very frustrating to know that people won’t acknowledge the power of the seed because of its associations with an illegal drug. This is not true of other plants which are used in our everyday diets, such as poppy seeds. These black seeds are distantly related to the opium poppy, and hence to illegal drugs, just like the seeds of the hemp plant, but the former are not treated with the same distain.
The simple fact is that hemp seeds contain an enormous number of nutrients that could help everyone, whether they train regularly, have problems with vitamin absorption, or just feel the need to eat a bit more healthily. They contain many amino acids that help the body, as well as plenty of fatty acids, and have a great deal of energy without any of the fat or sugar associated with health food bars and drinks.
Perhaps one of the most important nutrients that the hemp seed supplies is the fatty acids Omega 6 and Omega 3. The latter is regularly emphasized as important for the brain and body, and hemp seeds have plenty of this. Why waste your time eating fish, or living on a diet of nuts in order to get the Omega you need, when the seeds of the hemp plant can provide you with more than enough.
The additional benefit of hemp seeds is that they can be eaten by vegetarians and vegans, who sometimes struggle to get enough protein and fatty acids into their diet. Although many nuts and seeds are good for this, the seeds of hemp can give you more than this, because they are small, easily eaten as a snack or placed inside meals such as nut roasts, and they are delicious. Eating a few roasted seeds can give you the vitamins which would otherwise be lacking in the diet of vegetarians, and particularly vegans who also have to manage without dairy and egg products. Eating some of these seeds every day benefits everyone, from the very young to the very old, and provides everyone with a great energy and vitamin boost.
